okay I can't get the pictures out of the word document, but here is the gist on how Sharlene the magnificent was able to make my awesome picture
Select Object.
I cant use the lasso tool, but you could use that. Magic wand is good too but I only like it for solid objects where it wouldn’t get confused with other things of the same shade.
So I use the pen tool. Right click to see the different pen options. I use the first one.
I go to where I want to start selecting the object. And click. That makes an anchor point.
Then move a little bit, click. Its like connect the dots kinda. For curves I make all the points REALLY close. Straight objects like the box I just make one big long line. continue doing that all the way around the object till you get back to your first point it should connect when you click on it. Zooming it really helps be accurate.
after you click the end to the beginning, you should have a solid line.
Right click on your screen, and select “Make selection”
I feather the edges 5 pixels but try different settings.
You should now have a marquee(marching ants) around your object.
Go to your menu bar > Select>Select Inverse
Now you should have marching ants around your object AND the border of your image, that means that stuff but your object is selected.
For the funky black and white blur
Menu bar>Filter>Blur> Smart blur >play around with the settings.
For regular blur
Menu bar>Filter>Blur>Lens Blur> I played with the Iris radius and the shape.
Once you are done, save or Deselect. <CTRL> + <D>
To lighten the whole image I went to
Menu bar >Image>Adjustments>Curves and played with the bar. Drag the line on the graph around, when you let go it adjusts your image so you can see what it looks like.
