Summer of Scraplovin Challenge #8

Could this really be the last week of the 8 week challenge??? I am in shock! You all deserve a pat on the back!! So I will waste no more of your time and just get right to it! Here is your challenge for WEEK #8!!

You know I am not going to go easy on you since this is the last week....LOL!!

This week's Challenge is all about creating a background of your layout from something other than cardstock or patterned paper. I will give you some examples of what I am referencing...

*Use some corrugated cardboard as your background and do your entire layout on that.
*Use any type of fabric as your background!
*How bout some Accounting ledger paper? (and not the office supplies lines that they sell in the scrappy stores! this must be true ledger paper that you get in an office suppy store!)
*How about trying to create a layout on those large chipboard pieces that you get in shipments or at the lss that keep your paper from bending...paint it up a bit or leave it plain...whatever suits you!
*Do your layout entirely on old newspapers!

I could go on and on here but don't want to give away too many of the ideas..the skies the limit and let your creativity run wild with this!

As long as there is NO VISIBLE CARDSTOCK OR PATTERNED PAPER IN YOUR BACKGROUND, it counts. Everything else is up to you...use any pp or embellies or titles or anything on the layout....as long as it is mounted on something other than cardstock or patterned paper.

I will say that when creating your layout, if you would like to use a 12x12 sheet of cardstock to sew your fabric to it or maybe adhere your newspapers to it to give it sturdiness, that is just fine! Just as long as none of it shows thru!!

Remember to upload your layout into the Week EIGHT Gallery by Saturday night at midnight or it will not count for this week!! Good luck! I can't wait to see what you create!

Do you guys worry about making sure the stuff you use is photo safe? You know like newspaper which would look so cool is VERY ACIDIC! I'm not sure what cardboard is like but looks so cool.

Give me some feedback lovelies.

They do sell de-acidification spray....
Or if you are unsure...just make sure there is a barrier between your pictures and the cardboard/newspaper etc. (mount your pic on cardstock or pp before adhering it to background...or use no pics at all....)

I just didn't know how toxic it is to your book. The the page behind it, does it effect that too?

I know a gal who does a bunch of archival stuff for the museum here and she talks about how toxic newspaper print is.

You should be fine as long as you have good page protecters...but I would be careful about the page you have backing it. Also the cardstock or pp barrier behind the picture won't stop the acid forever...

Honestly, I have so many scrapbooks that if one or two pages get ruined, no one is going to care. KWIM?

Also, instead of putting it in a book you could frame it and hang it on your scrapspace wall....

I have a question about the challenge. Is there a size limit on the patterned paper that can be used as an embellishment? I'm just checking so I don't put anything on the layout that may be too big.

Now am completely wishing I would have chosen vintage sheet music as my non-scrappy background item. I've seen so many cool LOs that use that lately. Might need to do another LO for this challenge.

As long as it is an embellishment and NOT YOUR BACKGROUND paper you will be fine!

I had every intention of using corrugated cardboard for my background because I've always wanted to do a LO like that, but then I was moseying along in AC Moore and I happened to come across this 12" scalloped circle mirror and it was just too perfect! I love how this turned out...it looks soooo much better IRL!

I agree with Michelle... everyone is really steppin it up a level! I know what I want to do and went shopping at Micheal's. Not 5 min after I get into the store all the lights went out! They flickered and then stayed out; we were ushered out of the store after that. Hmm... guess I'll have to go tomorrow or something...I really need to start my LO nowwwww!!!

Awww...that made my day. Thanks everyone! I do get told alot that I don't look like a Grandma. My oldest daughter had her baby at 17, so she made me a young Grandma. It's great though because I can still do most of the things mom and dad can do with her. I do draw my lines at times and play the grandma card...heehee!
