Schnauzermom

OK Schnauzermom - fasten your seatbelt and get ready to ride!!!

As always, we start with scrapbooking...

Q - How long have you been scrapbooking?

About two and a half years now……I can’t believe it’s been that long!

Q - How did you start?

A friend talked me into going to another friend’s Creative Memories party…..I had NO desire to go, but it was an excuse to get out of the house…..started my foster dog book, and I was hooked!

Q - What is your favorite embellishment?

Too many to list! I love anything pewter by Making Memories!

Q - Do you ever use sketches?

Absolutely – I’ve got a huge binder of sketches collected from various places. My favorites are the ones by Zazu, but the binder is the first place I head for inspiration!

Q - Do you subscribe to any scrapbooking magazines?

Not at this point – I’ve probably picked all of them up at one time or another. I tend to grab magazines that catch my eye, and there hasn’t been one I’ve grabbed very consistently.

Q - Is there one technique that you haven't tried yet that you'd like to do?

I’d like to do some more with paint, particularly in titles. It’s an interesting look, with a lot of possibilities.

Q - When you surf the gallery what catches your eye? What makes you stop and look?

A lot of things. I like layouts that aren’t typical – that have something a little different. It might be a neat picture, or different use of an embellishment, or a unique way of putting the whole thing together. My list of favorites is a mishmash of things, but they all have something special to offer!

Q - Obviously dogs play a big part in your scrapbooking, and we'll talk more about them in a bit. Since I will be the lucky recipient of your custom cards, tell us a little bit about the scrapbooking you do to raise money for your rescue group.

Well, there are a couple of different avenues there. The cards started as a whim….I’m a member of a golden retriever group, and they were collecting cards to raffle to benefit a dog with extensive medical needs. A few of our rescue volunteers saw them, and said I should consider making them to offer at our craft sale….from there, it became a custom card program. I’ve got over 2000 dog pics “on file”, and will make cards from my library, or from pics provided by the lucky dog owner.

I’ve also donated one scrapbook, now complete, as a raffle prize for a “Take Your Dog to Work Day” event that benefited our rescue, a scrapbook as a raffle prize for our recent Bark in the Park dog walk, and am contemplating donating one as a fundraiser for the golden group that got me started making cards!

Q - How many albums have you completed?

Completed? We’re supposed to FINISH something????? Dang.

At this point, I’ve only completed two albums. But, I have at least 5 in progress at the moment, and work on whichever one I’m in the mood for.

Time to go off topic now, shall I HIJACK???

Q - You've fostered ALOT of dogs - what made Jackson stand out?

Oh, Jackson. I miss my sweet puppy boy………..

http://www.schnauzerama.org/jackson.htm

Jackson was a dog that I wasn’t “supposed” to get….he was a last minute addition to a rescue run from a puppy mill, because he had a heart murmur – he wasn’t “saleable”. As it turned out, we were not only his foster home, but his forever home…..

Jackson stands out in a lot of ways, but the biggest is that he was the HAPPIEST dog I’ve ever seen in my life! He loved every single person and dog that he ever met, and thought that everyone wanted to pet him – especially KIDS!!! I learned a lot from having Jackson….there’s no point in being miserable with the hand that life deals you. And the most important thing…sometimes it’s not the ending that’s important. It’s the journey along the way.

Q - Your avatar has always made me smile - Max looks like quite a character - tell us about him...

Max was my very FIRST rescue schnauzer!!! I love schnauzers, but had no idea that they needed RESCUE…I’d never seen one looking for a home. (turns out I wasn’t looking very hard….) Max had been hit by a car, and had a dislocated hip. The first night he was home from the vet having his hip fixed….he struggled up on the couch on 3 ‘lil legs, put his front paws on my shoulder, and tucked his head under my chin. Needless to say, he never left!!! He’s the “cruise director” of our house – always keeping an eye on what all of the humans and dogs are up to, making sure that no one needs “watching”, and always ready to join in a game!

Q - What do you do for a living?

I do technical support and network administration “stuff” for a large bank. Lots of janitor type work, and fixing what’s broken!

Q - Tell us about Jen and Chris...

Teenagers!!! LOL!!! If I talk too much about them in public, I’ll embarrass them…..Jen’s an active volunteer with our group, scraps some herself, and is a high school student. Chris is a student at our local community college.

Q - Your dh, Bill, sounds like quite a guy - how did you meet? How long have you been together?

We’ve been together over 6 years now, married for two. Several years ago, we worked together. He’s a part time musician, on top of his “day job”, and hey – he puts up with ME, all the dogs, and my scrap crap! LOL!

Q - Your knowledge about animals has helped so many of us here - and started our friendship so many months ago - I know alot of us owe you a round of Thank-you's! Do the people you work with pick your brain like we do?

Some of them do! There are ~80 volunteers with our group, about half that number of fosters….a few of us have had more than our fair share of medical experiences, and are always willing to share knowledge! I’ve got a personal interest in alternative medicine, and have had interesting experiences in working with situations where the vets didn’t offer a lot of options.

Q - What zodiac sign are you?

I’m a Libra.

Q - What's your greatest fear?

Being physically incapacitated. I would hate not to be able to take care of myself!!!

I have some perks with my own column - one is that I can choose my favorite LO's from your gallery and make you tell us a little about them...

This is an old pic…one of Bill’s earliest band pictures! Kopperfield was a “road band” and traveled all over the US. The picture itself was quite mangled, and was a challenge to try to clean up enough to work with!

This is one of my favorite pics of Billie and Etta, a pair of puppies that we fostered. I’d never had puppies since “day one” before, so these two girls were quite the experience!!! They’re off to new families now, and even tho I miss them, I’m glad they’re doing well!

This is Tyler, a golden retriever that we fostered. He was heartworm positive, but went thru treatment and is doing great – he came to Bark in the Park this year! This is one of the batch of cards that started it all…..the original golden retriever fundraiser.

Thanks DaSchnauzer - Hope it wasn't too painful...

Not at all, Tigger! I enjoyed talking with you!
